Handicraft products of Bangladesh, mainly made by poor artisans, reflect its rich cultural heritage. Through this project the researcher intends to promote one of Bangladesh’s most traditional handicrafts, hand fans, to markets at home and abroad. The marginalized rural housewives mainly make the fans. The project includes research on the inception of traditional hand fans, documentation and creating new designs of hand fans by collecting those from different parts of the country, creating competitive marketing opportunities at home and abroad, upgrading this fine art through workshops, creating opportunities for income generation activities for distressed women and other vulnerable groups.
