The Harijons are one of the marginalized minority groups who are definitely a "missing poor" community because their needs are hardy addressed by any development programs. The Harijons are discriminated as they belong to the lowest category of the caste system of the Hindus of the Indian subcontinent. The main objective of the study was to investigate the socio-economic condition of the 'Harijons' with in-depth analyses of their levels of deprivation, types and coverage of government or non-government development initiatives, if any, to develop their socio-economic conditions. This was mainly a pre-research study aimed at investigating the possibility of an in-depth study with this 'missing poor' community.
