In Bangladesh, many archaeological monuments and sites are located in areas inhabited by people living under the poverty line. However, for lack of care, many of these monuments are in a state of near ruin and may soon be lost. The research project undertaken by Professor Enamul Haque, a distinguished historian of international repute, aims at preparing authentic documentation on these rich pieces of national cultural heritage, bring awareness to the local people, through participatory research, about the importance of their preservation and help the poor in these areas to benefit from the resulting development of tourism and sale of archaeology-related arts and crafts.
