Participatory Research on Seasonal Dimension of Rural Agricultural Poverty and Survival Strategy of Rural Poor

Researchers: Student members of Arthonity Chorcha Kendro, Dhaka University

The vast majority of rural poor in Bangladesh are landless. For this reason most of them work as agricultural labour on land belonging to others. They remain unemployed during the lean seasons. The objective of the researchers of Arthonity Chorcha Kendra, Department of Economics of Dhaka University, is to investigate how their income fluctuates with the agricultural cycle and what survival strategies they adopt during the lean season. The young researchers who are taking part in this research are also building their own capacity for research under the guidance of a university professor. The action research project also aims at helping the poverty groups to identify the most effective survival strategy for their situation and for overcoming their seasonal crisis.
