Researcher: Mr. Topon Bagchi
Folk theatre is a popular and traditional entertainment
media in Bangladesh. However,
due to the rapid spread of cinema and the electronic
media, folk theatre artists, most of whom are poor now
face an uncertain future. Nearly eighty percent of these
artists are women from poor families with no other source
of income. The researcher, Tapan Bagchi, will assess
the problems faced by the folk theatre artists through
a participatory method and explore ways and means of
enhancing their popularity in society, along with their
status and income, as part of their poverty alleviation
process.
