Development of Traditional Hand Fans of Bangladesh.

Researcher: Mr. Chandra Shekhar Shaha

Handicraft products of Bangladesh, mainly made by poor artisans, reflect its rich cultural heritage. Through this project, Mr. Chandra Shekhar Shaha wishes to promote one of Bangladesh's most traditional handicrafts, hand fans, to markets at home and abroad. The fans are mainly made by marginalised rural housewives. The project includes research on the inception of traditional hand fans, documentation, creating new designs of hand fans by collecting those from different parts of the country, creating competitive marketing opportunities at home and abroad, upgrading this fine art through workshops, creating opportunities for income generation activities for distressed women and other vulnerable
groups.
