Researcher: Aning Marma
This is a Participatory Action Research (PAR) project
to be conducted with poverty groups in seven Marma (an
ethnic community in the Chittagong Hilltracts region
of Bangladesh) villages of Sunaichari Mouza of Naikonchari
Upazilla of Bandarban District. The objective is to
analyze, through PAR, the causes of their poverty, to
identify potentials for self-development and adopt their
own plan for poverty alleviation. It is expected that
through such analysis and reflections, the groups concerned
would be able to determine their own priorities and
identify measures for their realization. Community investigators
will help develop, through collective efforts, effective
measures for graduating from poverty without external
aid, mainly through the revival of traditional values
such as self-reliance, self-dignity, cooperative efforts
and savings. The process and result of the research
are expected to contribute to capacity building of the
investigators by inculcating in them the values of self-reliance,
collective action and rational approach to doing things
on their own.
