This research work is aimed at a developing a methodology
for poverty alleviation based on the concept of integrated
systems approach. It hypothesizes that under present
farm resources and farm environment in Bangladesh, there
is an excellent scope for increasing productivity of
field crops, vegetable and fishery in a household through
use of appropriate technologies devised/developed/designed/refined
by the farmers and by diversifying enterprises, mobilizing
resources, intensifying firm activities, conserving
environment, encouraging family savings, empowering
rural women and landless people for establishing their
rights in the society and building capacity of the participants
belonging to landless and marginal farm families for
ensuring household food security and upgrading nutritional
status and overall welfare of the farmers. This pilot
scale integrated farming project---being implemented
with the involvement of ten farm families five of which
are landless and five small holders in a small village
in Mymensingh disrtict- is expected to improve the livelihood
system of the participating farmers through generation
of information, upgrading of knowledge and skill on
a refined technology package for easy and increased
acceptability. The developed systems model and the strategy
of resource management of resource poor rural households
are also expected to be useful for extrapolation and
dissemination.
