Studies on livelihood Improvement through Integrated Farming

This research work is aimed at a developing a methodology for poverty alleviation based on the concept of integrated systems approach. It hypothesizes that under present farm resources and farm environment in Bangladesh, there is an excellent scope for increasing productivity of field crops, vegetable and fishery in a household through use of appropriate technologies devised/developed/designed/refined by the farmers and by diversifying enterprises, mobilizing resources, intensifying firm activities, conserving environment, encouraging family savings, empowering rural women and landless people for establishing their rights in the society and building capacity of the participants belonging to landless and marginal farm families for ensuring household food security and upgrading nutritional status and overall welfare of the farmers. This pilot scale integrated farming project---being implemented with the involvement of ten farm families five of which are landless and five small holders in a small village in Mymensingh disrtict- is expected to improve the livelihood system of the participating farmers through generation of information, upgrading of knowledge and skill on a refined technology package for easy and increased acceptability. The developed systems model and the strategy of resource management of resource poor rural households are also expected to be useful for extrapolation and dissemination.
