This research, the idea of which came from the people
themselves, will be a self-explorative peoples' action
research carried out by a number of hard-core income-poor
people themselves in a poverty stricken village in Dinajpur
district in the northern part of Bangladesh. The project
ensures strong participation of the poverty groups from
the very beginning where they would conjointly search
for small-scale income generating activities as well
as a proper route to self-perpetuating and sustainable
market mechanism. The participants aim to develop an
integrated production and income generation plan through
identification of appropriate economic activity and
planned division of labor among the villagers in production,
marketing, profit collection, including participation
in collective savings. Thus they will also develop a
production calendar for different seasons. The carrying
out of the research is based on the principles of self-initiatives,
self-exploration and self-dignity with reciprocal facilitation
and minimum external support. The outcome of the research
is expected to develop group coherence for collective
efforts in small-scale local production as well as identification
of a sustainable flow of production including marketing
strategy. Consequently, the process of the research
will help the participants to assess their training
needs for undertaking specific economic activities.
The success of the research is expected to create work
opportunities for the unemployed or semi-employed poverty
groups all the year round.
