In the district of Chittagong Hill Tracts i.e. in Bandarban,
Rangamati and Khagrachari are the homeland of the 13
indigenous groups of whom the Chakmas are well ahead
of all the other groups with respect to population size,
education, cloths they use etc. Traditionally, the Chakma
women are engaged in making their local traditional
garments making. The specific objectives of the study
are to (i) assess the training needs of the women engaged
in making traditional cloths and garments and motivating
them to organise themselves; and (ii) preparing plan
for institutionalisation of local cottage-based weaving
and garments industry.
