It has not been possible to extend equitable health
services to the rural poor even after three decades
since independence of Bangladesh. Maintenance of good
health is a major desire of the people and one of the
basic rights of human beings. Services available to
the poorer communities have deteriorated further despite
some technological successes in this sector. About half
of the population in Bangladesh considered as poor of
which 20 millions are considered as hardcore poor. Little
health-care services extended by the Government are
made accessible to these poorer sections of the population.
Yet in our Constitution, it is stated that one of the
goals is to develop a society based on freedom, equality,
self-dignity and justice. It is emphasized that the
livelihood of the people should be upgraded, both male
and female including children through improving nutrition
status and ensuring public health as the responsibilities
of the State. Health situation in Bangladesh has undergone
changes with the changes of the overall world health
situation. Rapid expansion of population, increased
urbanization and changing nature of the diseases may
be attributed to this. Revival of the diseases like
Dengue, Kala Jar (Black fever), Philaria, tuberculosis
etc. are some of the examples of these changes. The
present study will aim at developing a self-reliant
and sustainable health services based on identification
of the health-related problems. Based on a field survey
of the village named Barapiarpur of Sirajganj district,
diseases of skin, cough and cold, malnutrion-based diseases
are most common diseases. Rural people, particularly
the poor can find a way out from this common disease
through developing self-awareness. A full-fledged research
project can be developed based information derived from
successful completion of this pre-research.
